Thursday's Thru the Lense

A few years ago I was able to go to DC on vacation. I got to see the Lincoln Memorial, the Jefferson Memorial, the Washington Monument, the Vietnam Memorial, the World War II Memorial, and a whole bunch of other monuments and museums. But there were two I wanted to see: Arlington National Cemetery and the Battle of Iwo Jima Monument. This year, on one of my work trips, I finally got to see one of them:

*I did see a small portion of Arlington, but not enough to do it justice by camera.

Beginning a new week

I was in Iowa last week for work, and since I have no pictures (worth anything) on my work laptop, I skipped my weekly "Thursday's Thru The Lense". And since I've not uploaded anything new in a while, I'm not going to catch you up like I usually would. You'll just have to wait a few days. :)

Iowa...it's not that I don't like you. You're very pretty (during the right time of year...aka, NOT snow-white winter). It's that you're so desolate! On the two hour drive between Des Moines and Iowa City, you really don't offer a whole lot. I'd love to say it's not you, it's me....but that just wouldn't be true. It's you. I do, however, appreciate that your cities/towns are receptive to what I offer through work (education) and I had a VERY productive week last week. But that's just not quite enough to redeem you. Sorry.

Scentsy...why must you smell so good and offer such great stuff!!! I went to my first Scentsy party on Saturday and spent...well, more than I should have. Thankfully one of my purchases was a burner (as this was my first time) so I shouldn't have need of one anytime soon. (HA! as there's another one I want before I even left with the first) But I must restrain myself for 4 more months. I'm trying to save for a wedding here, folks!! Luna, Black Raspberry Vanilla, and White Tea and Cactus are the scents that will be filling my apartment for the next 4 months (BRV now...oh so good!!!) After that, I have no idea...they all, mostly, smell so good!! And now I know what to do for Christmas presents for those that already have burners (and those that don't...it's only fair I share my new addiction). HOORAY!!

Speaking of weddings...we paid our first half on Friday for the venue!! WOOHOO!! Now I have to call them and see if they'll send me the contact information for the florist, dj, bakery, and chef so I can contact and start making tasting appointments and such. The place we got is all-inclusive, but if you go beyond what is covered by the contact there will be extra fees. I'm thinking the only place that will be an issue is with the florist since the contract only covers certain pieces and I need more and different designs. I'm not sure if I'll encounter extra fees with the bakery...I guess it just depends on what I'm looking at doing: cupcakes!!! (Love this idea!)

Well...that's about all I've got for the weekend happenings. Hoping to get back in the swing of regularity this week. HA!! :)

Hugs...

Thursday's Through The Lense

...one day late.

Just as I was getting ready to post this I found out that my parents are having to put down my cat. He's gotten old and can't walk that well and is in too much pain and suffering to continue. I found Safari the summer of 1999 when he was just about 4-5 weeks old (he still had his blue eyes). We washed him, got his shots, and I took on weaning him.

I moved out three months after finding him to go to Bible School. And I never really moved back in. Sure I was there for weekends and such, but he's been my parents cat more than mine since I moved. While it's hard for me, it's even harder for them.

All his kitten pictures were taken with film and are at my parents, but I've got a few of him as an adult.

In honor of Mr. Safari:

(sleeping on my turtle...which soon became his)

(playing...see that look in his eye...he's out for blood)

(Going after his ribbon)

(He never really did master drinking from a regular dish)

(He LOVED "hiding" under the tree")

RIP Mr. Safari...you were the best we'd had. You were Dad's oddball cat with personality, Mom's Baby Kitty, and my Mr. Safari. You were greatly loved and you will be greatly missed.

Friday's Fill In

I haven't done one of these in a while, so I thought I'd have a little fun today (when I'm supposed to be working).

1. Blue skies _better stick around this weekend_.

2. _I love taking trips down_ memory lane _but not with my mom...those are usually embarrassing!!_

3. Kids _say some of the greatest things_.

4. _No making phone calls_, _no alarm clock_, _no deadlines_; these are some of the best things about vacation.

5. Love is _the best thing ever when shared with the right person (Mr. S)_.

6. _How does one watch_ submarine races.

7. And as for the weekend, tonight I'm looking forward to _finishing reading my book and starting another_, tomorrow my plans include _laundry and a little cleaning_ and Sunday, I want to _go to church, take a nap, and read a book_!

Thursday's Through The Lense

In an effort to get back into the swing of things, here is this week's installment - my two favorite Disney movies!!

I have a new favorite ride at Disney's California Adventure! The Little Mermaid is my 2nd favorite Disney movie and when California Adventure announced the building of this ride, I couldn't wait!! It opened June 3 and I finally got to ride it on the 15th. FANTASTIC!!!

This is from "World of Color"...an amazing water show at California Adventure. The first time I saw it, last year, I cried! Seriously...tears over a water show. Yeah, I'm a bit of crier. This picture is from my all-time favorite Disney movie: Beauty and the Beast! The picture is projected on a wall of water in the back. The two blue rays of light are actually water spouts through a lit sprayer. And the little round screens with shots of Beast actually rise out of the water at various times during the show. LOVE this!!!

Anyway...there you have it. Since I've missed a week I thought I'd add in an extra picture for your viewing pleasure.

Hugs...

Updates

It's been a while...

Last week I was in St. Louis, MO, for work. I discovered that living in California for even a short amount of time makes one forget the misery of humidity. Well, I was quickly reminded of what I was "missing" when I stepped off the plane in St. Louis. Ugh!! How did I have live in that?! Thankfully, barely, it rained on Tuesday and lightened the heat/humidity combo a great deal for the rest of the week. And I was most grateful!

We booked our venue last weekend and signed the paperwork today! Hearts Home Farm in Hemet. I'm so very excited about this step in the wedding planning process. I feel like I can move forward on everything now. When we give our first half payment I'll get the info for contacting the bakery, florist, and food people. Since HHF is all-inclusive, the list won't be that big and, if I keep it simple, there won't be any extra fees. I think there will be with the florist as the description provided for what is included is NOT what I'd envisioned for my flowers. But I'm hoping the fee won't be too much more.

I've also been talking with our photographer. (this was an included service, but we opted to use one we're familiar with) The contract should be signed with him this week and hopefully get an engagement session planned/scheduled before the end of August. I'm so excited that it's all coming together finally!!!

I joined Weight Watchers last month. I'm down about 7 pounds!! I'm very happy about that. It's hard to keep up with the travel, but that was one of the reason's I chose them. With moderation I can pretty much eat whatever I want (which is what I did last week in St. Louis, unfortunately). I'm getting back on track this week and will be adding more exercise to the mix (there's been a few limitations on that the last few weeks...but that's another story for another day). And I'm going to attempt some new recipes. I'll try to remember to post the ones that work.

Well, that's all I've got for now.

Hugs...
